Luther Forest Technology Campus and Recreation Fields

Project Overview

The LA Group developed a conceptual master plan for the creation of an international nanotechnology center known as the Luther Forest Technology Campus. The campus plan expertly blends manufacturing facilities, collegiate academic buildings, community use facilities, sports fields, recreational trails, and commercial facilities. The firm continues to play a key role in the oversight and planning of campus logistics, economic feasibility analysis, and municipal approval processes as the site grows. This includes the development of the

Luther Forest Athletic Fields. The site consists of approximately 33 acres for active recreational facilities. Working with the Town of Malta, community residents, and recreation organizations, a master plan was developed for the site that includes multi-sized soccer fields, softball fields, concession facilities, a comfort station, gazebos and covered shelters, walkways and pedestrian connections, and a playground facility.

Phase One construction includes establishment of multi-sized soccer fields, two softball fields, irrigation and utility infrastructure, and a parking facility. Phase Two construction includes the addition of two concession facilities, a centralized comfort station, and two additional softball fields. Future implementation projects to complete the master plan would include additional softball fields, expanded soccer facilities, a playground facility, and additional walkways and pedestrian connections.

Project Highlights

  • Utilize the area of land, “Pod 8”, that was allocated for community use in the overall master plan.
  • Signage and access were well-planned for the community members not familiar with the Technology Campus.
  • Include activities such as trails and playgrounds for those who are not involved or interested in the particular sports activity at that time.

Challenges/Benefits

The 33-acre site was provided to the community as a benefit of the Town of Malta hosting the Technology Campus.

Challenges/Benefits

Consider the range of age groups and ability levels that will use the facilities.

Challenges/Benefits

Crafting a design solution that works for the Town maintenance staff, Technology Campus managers, and the community stakeholders.
